| There are so many movies that have been and are being made that it is impossible to evaluate even a fraction of them. But when we actually look at the essential content of most of the present offerings, the field immediately becomes limited to a very few titles out of the millions available. It must be remembered that the ancient tradition of theatre was preliminarily a means of passing on essential knowledge through teaching stories - and within the context of conscious necessity, the "story" became a resonant gateway into more unconditional dimensions of Being Consciousness. In the 20th and 21st centuries, when movie making superseded theatre as one of the chief purveyors of story-telling, the opportunity to tell truly transformative stories was given to those in that medium. Unfortunately, most of what has been produced in the last century has been nothing more than trivial fodder to feed humanity's already over-inflated ego. Thus, it is by no means necessarily the "blockbusters" with the "highest box office grosses" that are the transmitters of the vitally essential information and simulation that human beings need for their conscious transformation. As with fast food, much of the movie industry is geared toward "junk story" mass consumption designed to create momentary stimulation but with very little lasting benefit once one exits the theatre. Yet there have been films created with the intention of revealing the real situation in humans as individuals and as a species, and within these rare works it is sometimes suggested that we have all been entrusted with a higher, more essential purpose in the universe. Many of these stories deal with the theme of how the essence has been encapsulated by the psyche or personality, and how it is possible through certain extraordinary circumstances and efforts to break through the shell of habitual, mechanical conditioning. In doing so, one and all may reclaim the infinite potential that is at the heart of all being.... And so in this time of great change and great uncertainty, it seemed appropriate to pass on a list of stories on film, video and DVD that have attempted to address the question of how to transcend the human condition – and in so doing and being, become truly human. Please enjoy, learn from and be edified by these movies for the millennium.
